  • Odens Double Mint Extreme Slim White Dry Review

Odens Double Mint Extreme Slim White Dry Review

Today, we have an old favorite of mine to check out! This is a snus made by GN Tobacco in Sweden: Oden’s Double Mint Extreme Slim White Dry. I remember when this one first launched back in 2016. Wow, I can’t believe it’s been that long. It brings the popular flavors of Oden’s snus products (wintergreen, “Cold” and “Double Mint”) to the slim white dry format. While many are more partial to their “Cold” flavor, I am one who finds their DoubleMint to be a little better, personally. If you’ve never had this one before, come along on this journey today and let me tell you all about it!

Ever since this one launched in 2016, it’s proven to be quite popular. They also have other variants of their “Pure Wintergreen” flavor, including an original portion version (22mg/portion), and a large white dry version (17.6mg/portion). This one isn’t quite as strong, which I’ll talk about shortly. So, if you’re ready to dive into the wintergreen world with me, let’s get into it!

This one is an “extreme”, at 22mg/g, but the pouch weight actually will bring that down. The cans weigh just 13 grams, and with 20 portions each that means you’re going to get 0.65 gram portions. That weight, at 22mg/g, means an actual nicotine content of 14.3mg/pouch. So while the total nicotine may sound “extreme”, it’s actually just at the strong level. So, now that we’ve done all that fun background stuff, let’s go to my favorite part: the review!

Opening up the can, you’ll notice the minty nature of this one pretty quick. The “double mint” is pretty easy to detect, as well! Yes, it does have peppermint to it, which is pretty clear and present. However, there is also a note of menthol in this one, which serves as the secondary mint to this one. It’s not overly sweet either, which is nice. The portions are slim, and of the “white dry” format. This means they’re going to have slightly less moisture to them than the average white portion. They’re not so dry that they’re uncomfortable, and the portion itself is pretty soft to the touch. The flavor comes on a little slower, due to this dry nature, but it does tend to last longer.

I do encounter a subtle cooling sensation under the upper lip, which is pretty nice. In the flavor profile, I pick up both peppermint and menthol. There is a bit more peppermint than menthol, but the way these two come together is pretty well balanced. It’s not overly sweet, and I notice a gentle tobacco base in the background. In terms of strength, it’s not overly strong. It does feel to be about the strong level, and has a nice kick to it. The flavor lasts quite a while, due to the white dry format. This one I find lasts well over an hour, sometimes up to 1.5 hours.

    Snubie’s Final Thoughts

This one is pretty good, and in my opinion a better tasting one than Oden’s Cold. That one isn’t bad, but I like this one due to it having more depth to it in terms of flavor. If you haven’t ever had this one, it’s worth a look.

It also comes in a wide array of formats and strengths, much like Oden’s Cold does. Give it a go on your next order, I think you’ll enjoy it!

  • Odens Cold Original Portion Review

    Odens Cold Original Portion Review

I learned recently that one of my all time favorite snus products, Offroad Frosted, was being discontinued. You wouldn’t realize how hard it is to find an original portion spearmint snus with a regular strength. There were only two, and today, we have the other one on hand. This is Oden’s Cold Original Portion.

Yes, I know for many when you think of Oden’s Cold you think of the White Dry Extreme version, which is probably the most popular variant. But, there are many shades of Oden’s Cold, and this is one of the many shades. If you’ve never had it before, don’t worry, because today we’re going to dive in and do a full examination and review!

The flavor description for this one says “a taste of spearmint”. Each can weighs 20 grams and has 20 plump portions. This means full one gram portions! You don’t see that very often anymore. The nicotine strength is 9mg/g, or 9mg/portion. I always thought GN did that so they’d be just a little stronger than others, but who knows. A silly theory I had. Also, you’ll notice this one has a hinged catch lid on top, so you have a spot to put your used pouches if you aren’t near a trash bin.

Opening up the can, the aroma that comes through is a clear hint of spearmint. It’s sweet in nature, but not absurdly sweet. The portions are really nice. They’re plump, at a gram each. The moisture amount is solid, but not too heavy on the drip. They feel great under the lip, and come with that cooling feeling you get with mint snus products. The flavor comes on pretty quick as well.

It’s got a good spearmint taste to it. To me, it seems just a hair sweeter than Offroad Frosted. But, I notice I can taste more tobacco with this one than I could with Offroad. It’s a pretty well rounded taste. The nicotine strength is pretty satisfying. It delivers right at the regular strength level. The flavor also lasts a decent amount of time, usually about 45 minutes or so.

    Snubie’s Final Thoughts

As a big Offroad Frosted fan, I found this one to be pretty enjoyable. It’s pretty similar, just slightly sweeter. But all in all, it’s pretty good stuff. If you like mint products, I think you’ll dig this one.

There was a regular strength white dry version of this at one time, but I haven’t seen it in ages. So, if you’re looking for a regular strength spearmint product, this is one you’ll want to try out!

  • Odens Cold Extreme Portion Review

    Odens Cold Extreme Portion Review

It’s been a while since I’ve had this one, but I recently grabbed a can of it on a whim and thought it would be fun to sit down and do a review of it. With the Oden’s Cold series, most of the discussion around it seems to be focused on their Extreme White Dry variant. But, did you know they also make original portion versions?

If you haven’t tried these before, it’s almost an entirely different experience! This is also an “Extreme”, but it’s stronger than their Extreme White Dry due to pouch weight, and has a more bold flavor profile! So, if you’re a mint enthusiast, let’s get right into it and check this snus out!

The flavor description for this one says it has a “cooling taste of spearmint”. I counted 20 portions in the can, so with a 20 gram can weight that means you get plump, full, 1 gram portions! You don’t see that much anymore, so it’s pretty exciting. The nicotine strength, like other Extreme products, is 22mg/g. So, with 1 gram portions that means you get 22mg per pouch! A quick note, Extreme White Dry is just 17.6mg/portion due to the lighter pouch weight, so this one is technically stronger than that one!

Opening up the can, the aroma is a slightly sweet aroma of spearmint. It’s interesting, this is an original portion snus. There aren’t many spearmint snus products on the market, much less original portion ones. After Offroad and Thunder Frosted bit the dust, this is about it! The portions are quite nice. They’re plump, moist, and soft.

Under the lip, they feel really good. You’ll get a light cooling sensation when you put one in, due to the mint flavor profile of this one. In the taste, honestly I like this one better than the white dry. It’s more balanced. The spearmint taste is gentle, and lightly sweet. I also encounter a subtle tobacco taste in the background, as well! In the nicotine strength, this one has a pretty solid kick. It feels right at the extra strong level, so if you’re looking for kick, you’ll be quite happy here. The flavor also has a decent amount of life to it, hanging out a good 40-45 minutes, on average!

    Snubie’s Final Thoughts

There really aren’t many spearmint snus products left in the world. To be honest, it’s sad to see it. The Oden’s Cold series is really the only one that still remains. If you like the taste of spearmint, this is going to be a line you’ll want to check out. And, it comes in all shades, strengths, and formats! So, no matter how you like your spearmint, you’ll be able to find some form of it within this line that will be what you’re looking for.

  • Odens 79 Extreme Review

    Odens 79 Extreme Review

It feels like forever since I’ve had this one. Sometimes I forget how many products GN Tobacco has, especially in their Oden’s series. This is Oden’s 79 Extreme Original Portion. This one, as the flavor says, has a taste of ginger and lime. They also make a regular strength version of this one, but I felt like going EXTREME today, because why not.

Let’s have some fun with it! It’s always good to mix things up, right? Also, this is perhaps one of the most uncommon snus flavors on the market today, and I love reviewing unique tasting products. So, let’s pop the lid and see what’s inside.

These portions are beautiful: nice and plump, and quite moist. The can weighs 20 grams, and has 20 portions. This means that the portion weight is, easily enough, 1 gram. Not a lot of companies make one gram portions anymore, so this is rather exciting for me. The nicotine content on this one, because it’s an “Extreme”, is 22mg/g. With the 1 gram portions, that means it’s going to be 22mg/portion. This puts it just above the “extra strong” level. How strong does that actually feel? Well, let’s get into the review and find that out.

Opening the can, the aroma that comes through is pretty interesting. It’s not overly present, but has a smooth aspect to it. I pick up a subtle lime, and a little ginger, but it’s not a super tart ginger. It’s very mildly sweet, but not overly so. I love the portions. They’re nice and plump, beautifully moist, and fill out the lip really well. I have zero complaints about these portions! In the flavor profile, it is an interesting one. Again, not a lot of ginger/lime products out there these days. Or, ginger flavored in general.

The taste isn’t too bold. I like that I can pick up a mild tobacco base along with the ginger and the lime. The ginger isn’t too tart, and the lime isn’t too tangy. It’s a pretty intriguing mix. In the nicotine strength, it feels to be around the extra strong level. It is quite a kick, but not overly strong. You will notice it to deliver, though! The flavor lasts around 35-40 minutes, which is pretty decent for an original portion snus.

    Snubie’s Final Thoughts

If you like strong snus and want something with a unique flavor, you’ll definitely want to give this one a go. I know it may not be for everyone, but I enjoyed the taste. I found it to be pretty unique, and enjoyable. It is a little on the strong side, so if you don’t want an extreme they also have a regular strength one that has the same flavor profile, so dive into that one if this one seems like too much strength!

  • Odens 69 EWD Review

    Odens 69 EWD Review

Yes, this snus is really called Oden’s 69. And no, there is no “inside” meaning to that name. Honestly, that’s the first questions I usually get asked by people who are new to snus when it comes to this one. “Hey, is it named 69 because…..you know”, to which I always reply, no. GN Tobacco does a numbering thing for some of their products. Example: 29 is apple, 79 is ginger/lime, 59 is cinnamon, etc. This one has no meaning to it other than it just being one of the numbered products in GN Tobacco’s family.

This is one of their “traditional” flavors. The flavor description says “a mild taste of tobacco”. It doesn’t say it in the description, but this one also has bergamot in it. So, with all that being said, let’s get into the review and check this one out!

This can weighs 16 grams, total. I count 20 portions in the can, meaning each portion is going to weigh 0.8 grams each. The nicotine content, since this is an “extreme”, is 22mg/g. With the 0.8 gram portions, that breaks down to 17.6mg per portion. That would put these at the extra strong level.

When you open the can, the aroma that you’ll notice is a mild traditional smell. I pick up a light, simple aroma of bergamot, with a gentle base tobacco right underneath it. The portions come in the “white dry” format. If you’re not familiar, this is a portion that has less moisture than a white portion.

They feel more dry to the touch, but they aren’t uncomfortable in the mouth by any means. The flavor takes a little longer to develop with these, as well. This one, in general, has a pretty mild flavor. The bergamot taste on this one is light, simple, and gentle. The tobacco base is quite mild, and doesn’t protrude too much into the flavor.

All in, this is a pretty basic flavored snus. The nicotine strength on this one is quite strong, delivering at the extra strong level. The flavor longevity is one thing I enjoy about this one. Being a white dry, the flavor develops slower, but has a longer release. I can usually enjoy a white dry portion for well over the hour mark, sometime almost close to two hours.

    Snubie’s Final Thoughts

While I mention that this one is petty simple, and basic, that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. For some, they don’t want a lot of flavor. Sometimes, the simple things are best. With this one, that one is an example of that. I find it to be a bit strong for regular use for me, however I do enjoy the flavor of this one from time to time. I would add it to your upcoming order if you’ve never had it; it’s well worth checking out.

  • Lundgrens Skåne Stark Review

    Lundgrens Skåne Stark Review

Wow, can you believe it’s been almost a decade since Lundgren’s Skåne launched? Today, we’re actually talking about the stronger version, which launched in 2020, but this flavor is certainly a popular one! The Lundgren’s series is made by Fiedler & Lundgren in Sweden, owned by BAT, and has flavors inspired by nature, particularly in Sweden.

The flavor for this one is described like this: “A taste of classic tobacco with hints of forestberry”. It’s a pretty well regarded brand. I personally am quite partial to their Norrland series, which I use regularly. This one is a good one though, and one that I find myself using here and there. So, if you’re curious about this one, read on, and we’ll chat more about it!

Each can weighs in at 19.2 grams and contains 22 portions, weighing 0.87 grams each. The nicotine content sits at 15mg/g, which breaks down to roughly 13.09mg per pouch. Looking at these portions in the can, you’ll notice they have little holes in them. These are called “perforated portions”. These allow a quicker release of flavor than your standard white portion, but also the same long lasting taste you get with a white portion snus.

So, with all that said, let’s do a review and check this out in detail.

The aroma on this one is pretty natural, and outdoorsy. I pick up elements of spruce, pine, and tobacco. There is a muted, but dark berry presence to this one which is much like the presence of a cranberry, but not super tart, nor is it super sweet. The portions have an interesting feel under the lip. I find if I use them too much they can bug my gums, which is why Lundgren’s is an occasional use for me. They aren’t uncomfortable, but the little holes can irritate me a bit if I use can after can of it.

The flavor releases pretty quickly, however, which is a nice benefit of this type of portion material. The flavor on this one, much like the aroma, is very natural and outdoorsy in essence. The forest berry presence is nice, not super sweet, and pairs well with the elements of spruce and pine. The tobacco base is gentle, and earthy. Not an afterthought, but not overpowering. The nicotine strength on this one is stronger than regular strength, but not too overbearing. It’s got a good delivery to it. The flavor also lasts quite a while, well up to an hour, sometimes more!

    Snubie’s Final Thoughts

Skåne is a pretty solid snus, with an impressive flavor. There’s a reason it’s one of the more popular ones on the snus market. While I’m more partial to Norrland, I find this one to be a pretty good one.

If you like nature, and flavors that are reminiscent of nature, I think this is one you’re going to enjoy. If this one is too strong for you, there is a regular strength variant of this one, too!

  • Lundgrens Aftonglöd Review

    Lundgrens Aftonglöd Review

It’s not very often that new snus pops up on the market, so it’s a joyous day when this is the case! Today, we have a new one by Fiedler & Lundgren to check out in their Lundgren’s snus family: Lundgren’s Aftonglöd! Aftonglöd, in Swedish, translates to “evening glow” for our non-Swedish speaking audience.

When I read the flavor description for this one, I was quite overjoyed: “A taste of tobacco, leather and bergamot”. Yes, you read that correctly. This is not a mint snus. Not a flavored snus. This is one that focuses on the classic, traditional tobacco flavor. So, a new snus, and one that focuses on tobacco? I’d say that’s definitely cause for celebration. So, let’s get into this review and dig into it and see what this one is all about!

Opening the can I counted 22 portions. The can weighs 17.6 grams in total, which means the portions are going to weigh 0.8 grams each. The nicotine strength sits at 10mg/g, and with that portion weight it means 8mg per portion. Looking at the packaging, I was pleased to see this one has the FlexLid, which is an expandable catch lid that grows as you add more used portions to it. I also noticed this is another perforated white portion product, which we’ll touch on when we get into the review.

The aroma of this one is quite spectacular. I pick up leather and smoke up front, which sit on top of a beautiful smelling base tobacco. I honestly didn’t pick up much bergamot in the aroma. There is, perhaps, a dab of it in the background, but not an overbearing amount by any means. The perforated white portions have little holes in them, which allow the flavor to get out faster than your average white portion.

Against the gum, I find them to be a bit much if I use them too often, but I can get through a can or two before I need a break. The flavor profile on this one is really good. It’s very much a tobacco-centric snus. The leathery and smoky tones come through clearly, and add to quite a full bodied taste experience. I don’t taste a lot of bergamot; the flavor profile seems to be tobacco, moreso than “traditional”. At least, to my taste. In the nicotine strength, I find it to feel about the regular level and have a steady delivery to it. The flavor lasts a good amount of time, about an hour, on average.

    Snubie’s Final Thoughts

In the end, I find myself really enjoying this one. There aren’t a lot of snus products on the market that taste like tobacco, most have other added flavors. However, this is one that really stands out quite well in terms of the rich, robust tobacco flavor. I highly advise any tobacco lover or snus enthusiast that reads this to give it a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

  • Kapten Salmiak Extra Strong Review

    Kapten Salmiak Extra Strong Review

I’ve always really enjoyed Kapten Salmiak. Many, many years ago, a good friend of mine was visiting and placed a snus order at my place. One of the products he saw that was on sale that week was Kapten Salmiak. So, he grabbed some extra for me as well when he did his order. Whenever it came in, I was surprised with how much I enjoyed it and how quickly I got through the cans that I got.

Nowadays, it’s something that I’ll grab here and there when I have a craving for it. I don’t see many people talking about this one, so I figured it would be a fun one to do a review of today!

The flavor description for this one says it has “a clear taste of licorice”. When you open it up, you’ll notice this comes in the Star Formation now. PMI owns AG Snus, but recently purchased Swedish Match, which means that now many Kapten white portion products come in the Star Formation you see with others like General, Grov, Ettan, etc. Each can weighs in at 18 grams and has 20 portions, which means 0.9 gram portions. As an X-Stark, the nicotine content is 18.60mg/g. With 0.9 gram portions, 16.74mg per portion.

Let’s get into this can and check this out, shall we? This one has a nice, salty aroma of black licorice to it. It’s pretty simple, and gentle in it’s presence. The portions are pretty soft, but the tobacco inside is slightly firm, so I do suggest rolling these around in your fingers to loosen the tobacco up. Once you put them under your lip you’ll find they feel pretty good. They have a gradual release of flavor due to the white portion format.

The taste is pretty solid. It’s gentle, and mild, but not weak or lacking. The salmiak flavor comes through clearly, with a slight salty nature to it. There’s a mild tobacco base under it all, as well. In the nicotine kick, this one feels to be a little above the strong level, but not too overbearingly strong. It has a good kick, but it’s not too much. The flavor longevity is also impressive, lasting up to an hour, sometimes more!

    Snubie’s Final Thoughts

This is a really good, and really underrated snus! If you like the taste of licorice, or salmiak, you’re going to enjoy this one. I don’t see many people talking about it, so it was nice to sit down and share a review of this one with the snus community. If you haven’t had it before, give either a go on your next order!

  • Kapten Mint Extra Strong Review

    Kapten Mint Extra Strong Review

Today, we’re going to be sitting down and talking about a snus that I’ve been a fan of for quite a while: Kapten Mint X-Stark! I first tried this one shortly after it launched, I believe it was around 2015. It’s crazy to think it’s been that long since Kapten burst onto the snus scene. Kapten originally launched back in 2013, a product of AG Snus in Denmark. However, in 2021, AG Snus was acquired by PMI and is now one of their companies.

The bottom of the can has a link to the Swedish Match website, probably because Swedish Match was acquired by PMI in 2022. I guess this sort of makes General Snus and Kapten Snus siblings. I never thought I’d see the day! But, we’ll talk more on that when we get into the review. The product description for this one says it is “a white portion snus with traditional taste of bergamot, high nicotine level and clear cooling elements of mint”. But, there’s much more to it than that! So, let’s get into this review and check it out.

Opening up the can, you’ll notice it comes in the star formation, a common attribute of premium white portion snus in the Swedish Match family. Kapten used to not come this way, but shortly after PMI acquired Swedish Match, Kapten began coming in the star pattern. Each can weighs 18 grams and has 20 portions, meaning each portion weighs 0.9 grams each. The nicotine content is 15mg/g, but with the 0.9 gram portions that’s actually just 13.5mg/portion. So, while it’s called an “extra stark”, it’s actually at the strong level.

I’ve always been a big fan of this one. Opening up the can reminds me why. This one has a nice aroma of peppermint, but I like it because it’s relatively gentle and not overly sweet. I know the product details mention bergamot, but I don’t notice it in the aroma, nor in the flavor. The portions feel closer to Swedish Match white portions. If you remember what Kapten portions were like before, they aren’t as plump feeling as they used to be. They’re still comfortable under the lip, and soft, but they feel lighter than they used to. If you didn’t have them before, don’t worry, you’ll enjoy them.

You also get a nice cooling sensation under the lip when you put one of these in. In the flavor profile, it’s a really nice taste of mint. It’s smooth, gentle, and pleasant. It’s not overly sweet, which is a really nice thing about this one. The nicotine strength on this one isn’t super strong. Honestly, to me it feels close to the strong level, but doesn’t have a mega strong kick to it. The flavor lasts a long time, usually up to an hour!

    Snubie’s Final Thoughts

I’m a big fan of this snus. If you like mint flavors and haven’t had this one yet, you owe it to yourself to check it out. It’s a great tasting snus, with a long lasting flavor. It’s not mega sweet, and is one that you can enjoy day in and day out. In my opinion, it’s one of the top three mint flavored snus products on the market along with Catch XR Mint and Nick & Johnny Green Ice. So, go grab some! You’ll be glad you did.

  • Göteborgs Rapé Botaniska Review

    Göteborgs Rapé Botaniska Review

For the past several years, Swedish Match has been releasing limited edition products in the GR series. It seems like it happens a lot at summertime, too. You may remember some of these intriguing tastes:

    May 2018: Blueberry Flavor
    May 2021: West Coast IPA
    May 2022: Fladerbris (Elderflower flavor)
May 2023: Gullbergs Kaj (rhubarb flavor)

Of those, 2021’s West Coast IPA was my favorite, and probably one of my all time favorite snuses I’ve had yet. Now, it is the summer of 2024, and Swedish Match is back at it again with another limited edition GR flavor, this one with a ‘botanical’ inspiration. The flavor description for this one says it has “a light and nuanced tobacco flavor with hints of cherry, slight notes of citrus and a sweet floral finish”. That sounds pretty tasty to me!

Let’s open up one of these cans and look at what’s inside

You’ll see these portions come in the Star Formation, which is something unique to Swedish Match products. They are sightly wedged, so I suggest rolling them around to loosen up the tobacco before you put one under your lip. Each can weighs 21.6 grams and has 24 portions, weighing 0.9 grams each. The nicotine content is 8mg/g, which breaks down to 7.2mg/portion in total. You’ll also find the catch lid on top, which is where you can deposit your used portions if you aren’t near a trash receptacle.

Now, let’s put in a portion and give this snus a review!

In the aroma department, this one has quite a lovely scent to it. Cherry is the heavy hitter in the aroma. It’s almost a black cherry, and comes through in a gentle, lightly sweet way. I don’t pick up a lot of citrus, but it does have a very subtle floral undertone. The portions are pretty soft once you get them fluffed up, and have a nice feel under the lip. They’re not super moist, due to the white portion format, and have a gradual release of flavor.

The taste is a pretty nice, bright flavor. The cherry is most of what you’re going to taste. It’s gentle, and has a subtle sweetness to it. I pick up what is perhaps a very faint citrus in the background, but it’s not something that comes through in a major way. There is a light, floral undertone to this one that actually works pretty decently with the cherry. The nicotine strength on this one sits at the regular level, and I find it to have a comfortable, satisfying delivery. The flavor lasts a solid hour, sometimes a little bit more!

    Snubie’s Final Thoughts

When I first heard about this one, I thought it was going to be a snus with a floral taste. However, in the end, I was surprised to encounter a snus that has a fresh, bright taste of cherry. There aren’t a lot of snus products with a cherry flavor to them, so this was one that caught me off guard. Should you try it? Absolutely.

While not something I will use full time, I can say I’m going to keep a few cans around this summer to enjoy. With limited editions, you never know if they’re going to come back or not, so if you like it, make sure and stock up. Once it’s gone, it could be gone for good!
